Kynosura
Her name is Kynosura.
Pronounced key-no-soo-ra;
the Greek word for the constellation Ursa Minor wherein lies Polaris, the North Star.
Kynosura is a functional sundial designed for timekeeping at its location of 43.17N, -73.33W,
with an attached dome for use as a sweat lodge, music chamber and sleeping space.
Her form is an amalgam of the Sun, the Earth and the Moon.
Bringing together the elements of life into a space where the passing of time can be enjoyed, observed and contemplated both on the grand and granular scale.
Built from cast concrete, steel and glass this architectural sculpture serves as an intentional space for meditation, community, ceremony and timekeeping.
